Hope
The company was founded in 1985 by Ian Weatherill and Simon Sharp, former Rolls Royce aeronautical engineers, as a subcontractor to manufacturer of fixtures and tooling for local aerospace companies. In 1989, owners decided that the brakes on their newly discovered mountain bikes were not enough, compared to the bikes used in their motorbikes. They began developing an alternative to the Cantilever brakes that were common on mountain bikes at the time. They designed a rim brake that they put on the front wheel of the bicycle.
In 1994 and 1995 on the Eurobike, Hope introduced a hydraulic braking system with a concept twin-piston system, although only a single-sided version was available to the public.
On a specially constructed bike, driven by Hope, Guy Martin broke the British speed record for cycling, reaching around 180 km / h while driving in the wind tunnel behind the truck.
Today, the Hope company is known for the excellent quality of brakes, discs, headsets, hubs, sprockets, pedals and other bicycle parts.
